About Us - Pastor

Welcome! I am Wayne Bernardo. My wife Margaret and I and our two daughters moved to the church in 1990 and quickly realized that God had a ministry in store for us that we could not have imagined.  Today,  twenty-seven years later, our family is over three hundred strong, and the plan which God had in store for the congregation is flourishing.
I came to Culpeper as a second career minister, having worked in the furniture manufacturing industry in North Carolina.  I also served in the Marine Corps Reserve.  I was a Deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Hickory, North Carolina when Margaret and I answered God's call to the ministry.  We moved to Richmond, Virginia where I attended Union Theological Seminary and earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in 1984.  My first call was to the Clarkton Presbyterian Church in Clarkton, North Carolina where I was the solo pastor for five years.  During this time I also served as an assistant coach for the local high school.
Today Culpeper is a thriving congregation focused on growing in God's Word, ministering to one another and the community in discipleship and sharing in the fellowship of God's spirit.  The joy of pastoring this congregation comes from the fact that the spiritual spark for our ministry does not come from the office of the minister, but from the congregation and their desire to serve God in so many ways.
As pastor, I would invite one and all to come worship with us and experience the fellowship of the congregation and Spirit of Christ alive in this place.  Yours in Christ,  Wayne Bernardo
